After introducing the iPad (8th generation) last year, Apple has finally refreshed the entry-level iPad with some minor changes. However, the iPad still sticks to the original formula – big and chunky bezels, a home button with upgraded internals. Let’s take a look at the iPad (9th generation) and the upgrades it brings onboard.
The new iPad features a 10.2-inch Retina display. The new 10.2-inch iPad comes with True Tone, a first for the entry-level iPad lineup. The display offers a 2160×1620-pixel resolution with a pixel density of 264ppi and a peak brightness of 500 nits. This generation also comes with support for the first-generation Apple Pencil.
The iPad (9th generation) comes with a two-year-old A13 Bionic chipset. It might sound a little old for a new product, but it still packs a punch. The A13 Bionic promises to bring a 20-per cent boost in performance compared to the last generation. The new chipset brings support for Live Text on the new iPad. Apple claims that the new iPad is 3x faster than the best selling Chromebook and 6x faster than the best selling Android tablet in the market.

iPad now comes with a new 12MP Ultra Wide front camera. It also borrows the Center Stage feature from the iPad Pro, which automatically pans the camera to keep the person in the field of view. The Center Stage works with FaceTime and a bunch of other third-party apps, including Zoom and TikTok. The rear 8MP camera comes with up to 5x digital zoom, HDR, auto image stabilisation, panorama and burst mode. The new iPad packs stereo speakers and dual microphones.
Apple’s most affordable iPad now comes with 64GB of base storage, and it is also available in a 256GB storage variant. The iPad (9th generation) will be available to order starting today, with shipments scheduled to begin on Friday, September 24. The new iPad will be available in Space Gray and Silver colour options starting at Rs. 30,990.
