    It is quite common that the monsoon period carries with itself the dreaded common cold and flu. Whenever there is a slight change in the weather, people tend to catch a cold and sadly, it is contagious in nature. If one person catches a cold in the house, it can result in the entire family falling ill. However, as we have all heard, ” Prevention is better than cure”. Let us explore five simple ways to keep the flu at bay.

    1) Drink Green Tea And Black Tea

    Green Tea is a mine full of antioxidants. These antioxidants are helpful in improving the immune system. It contains bioactive compounds which improve health and brain functions. The addition of ginger into it increases metabolism. Similarly, Black tea contains Vitamin C to support the immune system in fighting off the cold. It also helps in soothing a sore throat and chase away the chills.

    2) Proper Sleep

    When we don’t get enough sleep, antibodies and cells are reduced to their minimum capacity. During a long period of sleep, the body releases Cytokines. It is a type of protein which regulates the immune system to fight infections. By having a proper sleep of 7-8 hours, we can avoid the risk of flu.

    3) Regular Exercise/ Yoga

    A regular exercise routine is also known fo reduce stress and anxiety and helps in accelerating the circulation of White Blood Cells( diseases fighting cells). Hence, regular exercise is mandatory to stay healthy.

    4) Addition of Turmeric and Black Pepper

    Turmeric is known to have a very strong anti-inflammatory effect and is also known to be an antioxidant. Adding turmeric to milk and having it before going to bed can minimise the risk of cold. Black Pepper can also help combat cold as it is enriched with Vitamin C, which boosts immunity and works as an excellent antibiotic.

    5) Maintain hygiene

    Regular washing of hands, taking regular showers, cleaning the house properly, wearing clean clothes and avoiding contact with people who have the flu can ensure minimal chance of catching any cold or flu.
