We always suspected the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT had more in its tank. It was only a matter of time we got Navi drivers that actually allow overclocking to see just how much headroom AMD’s latest budget warrior has. Turns out, it’s a lot.

    2080 scores 6505 points

A Redditor managed to crank his reference RX 5700XT up to 2155 MHz, an eye-watering 400 MHz above the reference Game Clock. At this clockspeed, he managed to reach 6533 in Firestrike Ultra. That’s slightly higher than the 6505 scored by Guru3D’s RTX 2080 here.

Polaris and now, seemingly Navi, have demonstrated incredible gains with overclocking. Custom RX 580s like the Sapphire Nitro 580, deliver 15-20 percent higher framerates than their reference counterparts. The RX 5700 XT owner described temps and voltage being the major limiting factors with his OC. It’ll be fascinating to see how custom RX 5700XTs handle large OCs on better boards than AMD’s anemic reference blower design.
