Most of our days start late and are backed by the freshness that our morning coffee or tea provides us. Nowadays, it is quite natural for a person to sleep late at night and wake up late the next day. Moreover, instead of homemade food, packaged food is becoming more prevalent. Consequently, every third person is suffering from diseases like stroke, heart attack, obesity, migraine, etc. Are all these diseases the after effects of change in our lifestyle? Lifestyle is the way a person lives his/her life. It plays a pivotal role in one’s life, affecting various aspects like personality and health.

In this revolutionary world, everyone is busy in the rat race for money, and only a handful of people are concerned about their health. A vast majority of working people can’t balance their personal and professional life. This results in increased consumption of unhealthy food, continuous late nights, and no exercise, which makes one a victim of various serious diseases. The leading cause of all this is the changing lifestyle. Adoption of western culture has changed our lives completely. Implicitly, it has affected our culture and traditions.

Stroke is a disease caused by an interruption in blood supply to the brain. According to statistics, every third person dies within a year of having a stroke. In 2013, Australians suffered around 50,000 new and recurrent strokes – that is one stroke every 10 minutes. It all depends on the food habits and sleeping pattern of a person. If one is eating junk food but is not having a proper sleep of 7-8 hours, it decreases the flow of blood to the heart and causes damage to the heart muscles. Some of our habits, like having food while watching TV, smoking, heavy drinking, lack of exercise, are important risk factors. Having food while watching TV is a terrible practice as it diverts our mind, making it difficult for us to relish the taste of food. One doesn’t realize the quantity of food consumed or if more is needed. This can also prove to be a cause of obesity.

“A change in lifestyle begins with a vision and determination.”

Life is full of struggles, and we must ensure that we live a happy and prosperous life. For that, we need to have a strong determination to change and adapt. It is our lifestyle, which defines our life span. We should change our old habits and take a balanced diet. We should develop a positive perspective towards life and eliminate unnecessary work. We should realize that regular yoga and exercise is essential as it increases blood circulation, hence lowering the chance of heart diseases. It is proved that multitasking reduces the concentration level and degrades the efficiency of work. Performing one task at a time reduces stress and tension. A daily routine can be developed for sleeping and various activities of the day. By practicing the same, we can live a hale and hearty life.
