Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S9, at its launch, was accused of being painfully similar to its predecessor, Galaxy S8, in terms of design and features. But if reports are to be believed, Samsung has listened to us and we may actually see some substantial changes in the successor to the S9, Galaxy S10. Galaxy S10 will also be marking the 10-year anniversary of the Galaxy S series and we can expect Samsung to commemorate this by some huge changes in the next Galaxy S device.

According to some industry insiders, the Galaxy S10 is expected to launch in three variants with two screen sizes. And the top-end variant will have a triple camera setup, just like the Huawei P20 Pro, and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The in-screen fingerprint scanner was first rumored to come with the Galaxy S9 but as it turned out, Samsung may have been saving it for later.

The three phones are being developed under the codename Beyond. The three variants are being called Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2.

Beyond 0 is the entry level variant and will be sporting a single rear camera and a 5.8” screen. Interestingly, Beyond 0’s panel will be a flat panel as opposed to the curved screens it predecessors had.

Beyond 1 will have the same screen size as the Beyond 0 but will have the curved edges of Samsung’s Infinity Display. Photography will be handled by a dual camera setup just like the S9+ with some improvements.

Beyond 2 is the top-end model and this is where Samsung got creative. This variant will have a larger 6.2” Infinity display. It’s expected to have a triple rear camera setup. Although this has already been done by Huawei on the P20 Pro, it’s still unclear how Samsung will actually implement this technology. They will be developing their own sensors to make their triple camera setup stand out from others’.

Other than that, this variant will also be having an in-screen fingerprint scanner. As mentioned earlier, it was rumored to be on the Galaxy S9 but Samsung thought the technology wasn’t ready yet for mass-production. Samsung is also, reportedly, going to ditch iris scanning, some checks with suppliers have revealed that they haven’t ordered the components required for iris authentication.

All these rumors are still not confirmed and anything reported should be taken with a pinch of salt. But these changes, if they actually happen, would make every sense. Samsung is under pressure because of declining sales in major markets like China and India, as well as lower global sales in 2017 and a major move to represent the future of the Galaxy series was long due.

Galaxy S10 could be launched in early 2018 according to some rumors.
