Asus’ ROG Crosshair VIII Impact X570 sets a new record: RAM overclocked to 5856MHz on Ryzen 3000 series CPU

    Asus usually goes overboard with their top of the line Crosshair series motherboards and this time it’s no different. In an Instagram post, the company has touted its Crosshair X570 Impact of overclocking a GSkill 3200 memory to 5856MHz. The ROG X570 Impact is based on the mini-DTX form factor and offers all the bells and whistles that you’d expect out of a ROG Crosshair product.

    The feat was achieved by Taiwanese overclocker “Bianbao” a few days ago running the following configuration. The score has been validated by HWBot.

    • AMD Ryzen 5 3600X CPU underclocked to 2.22GHz (most likely for stability purpose)
    • Crosshair VIII Impact X570 motherboard
    • 1x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200MHz CL16 DDR4 Memory
    • Geforce GT 710 1GB GDDR3 (the only disappointing component)
    • 240GB Corsair M500 NVMe M.2 SSD
    • Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

    This bodes well for Asus as it shows the high quality of the X570 Impact as well as the excellent memory support it has to offer.

    We do not expect this to 24×7 stable overclock, not even close, but it does show that 3600MHz+ frequencies are gettable. In terms of performance, according to AMD themselves, Ryzen performs best at 3600/3733MHz so you shouldn’t expect too much of a performance uplift.

    This, however, can greatly impact AMD’s integrated graphics performance as we all know that APU graphics is fed by the bandwidth provided by our system memory. Unfortunately, AMD’s 3rd gen APUs are based on previous Zen+ architecture and the memory controller on it struggles to run anything higher than 3433MHz. We can test the impact of such high-speed memory once next-gen APUs comes out as those are expected to be based on Zen 2 core, that comes with an updated memory controller and supports much higher memory speeds.
