A while back I shared a few benchmarks of the Ryzen 5 3600 ($199), one where it beat the Core i9-9900K ($484) in the single-threaded Geekbench test and the other where it pacified the i7-9700K ($374) in Cinebench R15 and R20 (multi-threaded). Many people claimed that those tests were fake or tampered with, so for them, we’ve got another Cinebench R15 benchmark where the Ryzen 5 3600 overpowers the Core i7-9700K.
Here you’ve got the 3600 edging past the Core i7-9700K and leaving the i5-9600K far behind. If you compare it to the retired Haswell based i7-4770K, it’s almost twice as fast. This is pretty impressive, as a few years back, AMD’s Bulldozer CPUs were barely able to keep up with the contemporary i3s and i5s. The tables have turned and this time, Intel is on the run. Yes, I know you’ll say that there are many instances of the i7-9700K in this shot with one being faster than the Ryzen 5 3600, but those are the overclocked samples. Cinebench doesn’t recognize the overclock at times but the extra performance is reflected in the scores. The base R15 score of the 9700K is 1542 points while the 3rd Gen Ryzen 5 yields 1569 points, clearing beating it.
Yes, it’s very likely that the Ryzen chip is also overclocked as the recent Geekbench test indicated lower multi-threaded performance compared to the 9700K, but keep in mind that the Intel chip is almost twice as expensive, and on top of that doesn’t include a bundled heat-sink. From what I can tell, the Ryzen 5 3600 is set to become the most popular CPU in the consumer market in the coming months.
