As AMD’s E3 event gets closer, we have another benchmark that should be a cause of concern for Intel. This test shows the AMD Ryzen 5 3600, a hex-core chip that will cost $199 beating the Intel Coffee lake based Core i7-9700K (octa-core) that costs almost twice @ $400.
This Ryzen 5 3600 is clocked at a base clock of 3.60GHz and a boost of 4.21GHz. In the single-core test it scores 5599 points and in the multi-core manages to claw its way past the 29K mark, leaving all the i5s, i7s, and even AMD’s own enthusiast CPU, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX in the dust.
The i7-9700K is an 8-core part that scores 28798 points in the multi-core test and 6023 in the single-core benchmark. Owing to its higher clocks, it’s faster in the latter but is utterly defeated in the former. The Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is a 32-core part clocked at a base clock of 3GHz, and the same 4.2GHz boost as the Ryzen 5 3600, but lags behind in both the single-core as well as the multi-core tests by quite a margin:
At this rate, the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X clocked at 4.7-4.8GHz should make short work of Intel’s i9-9900K, on steroids or not. We’ll be seeing first-party benchmarks of the same soon enough, but keep in mind that it’ll probably cost around $650, but at least it’s worth that amount.
