Realme and Xiaomi have already come out to declare that they’ll be launching phones with 64 Megapixel sensors soon and guess what? Samsung will soon be joining the party!
A few months ago Samsung expressed interest in launching a phone with its new ISOCELL Bright GW1 when it was unveiled in May. However, Samsung put this project on hold as the public response seemed abysmal at best. With Realme and Redmi now joining the 64-megapixel party, Samsung seems to be compelled to flex its muscles, according to an eminent Samsung tipster.
Considering the fact that Samsung already has these sensors in ready stock, it wouldn’t be that hard for them to begin production of the said handset with the new ISOCELL sensor. But, it’s not like Samsung to engage in price-wars with its Chinese counterparts. I personally expect Sammy to carve out its own market niche for the new smartphone to stay unique.
Samsung will most probably add on this sensor as an incremental update to the Galaxy A70 to synthesize the Galaxy A70S. Like I said earlier, the A70 is a premium mid-ranger and will definitely not be able to undercut the price of Xiaomi’s and Realme’s variants when they launch.
If you ask us, this whole megapixel war is a bunch of hogwash. Sure, for the uninitiated, camera performance is as simple as more megapixels = better picture output but we all know that this isn’t the case. The Pixel pulls off its industry-leading performance with just a 12MP sensor which goes to show that consumers should start to take stock of the fact that sensor resolution isn’t everything. I’d much rather put my faith in post-processing, something that Google does so well with the Pixel lineup.
Let’s not forget that this sensor uses pixel-binning like the IMX 586 and that this doesn’t necessarily translate into better detail in pictures. Hopefully, Samsung implements this sensor in the best way possible if its planning on staying ahead of the pack!
