Insomniac Games has now confirmed that there will indeed be a 60 FPS performance mode in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The PS5 title made its debut over 2 months ago when Sony revealed the console alongside its launch lineup.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is one of the first games that has actively shown off what the SSD in PS5 can do for next-gen games. The game is a continuation of the megahit franchise that has been present on almost every PlayStation console. Last night we also got to see an extended gameplay sequence that drives home the power of the SSD.

All the gameplay released till now has been at 30 FPS, while shown in crisp 4K resolution. We, along with many others, suspected that Sony might again push for visuals over performance this generation but that’s apparently not the case. As with Spider-Man: Miles Morales before it, Rift Apart will also ship with a 60 FPS mode which presumably will dial back visual fidelity (likely raytracing and other demanding effects).

The confirmation comes from an interview that Insomniac did with Weekly Famitsu. The Sony first-party developer did mention that the mode will most likely run below 4K resolution.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be a PS5 launch window title, meaning it should release within a few months of the console’s launch. PlayStation 5 is targeting a late 2020 release, likely mid-November.
