OnePlus is out its Watch with an aim to extend its “ecosystem”. The OnePlus Watch debuts alongside the OnePlus 9 series devices and will start at Rs. 14,999. Let’s see what it offers.
OnePlus Watch Enters The Game
OnePlus Watch has built up huge anticipations and was a welcome addition to OnePlus fanboys who have eagerly waited for a full-fledged wearable from the brand. OnePlus seems to have got onto a non-existent spec sheet race with hardware being one major talking point.
- Design & Display: The 1.39″ AMOLED display is housed inside a 46mm polished stainless steel case. The PPI count is rated at 326 which is plenty high for a watch considering the viewing distance. The case also houses 2 buttons on the side with OnePlus branding engraved onto one. OnePlus Watch also features a water and dust resistant design with IP68 certification and can survive up to 5atm of pressure.
- Spec-Sheet: On the inside, the OnePlus Watch features 1GB of RAM alongside 4GB of internal storage. The OnePlus Watch also houses in-built speakers and has the ability to connect to WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. It, however, misses out on cellular connectivity meaning you need to be connected to a smartphone device for using cell-based features. What is even more astonishing that even the OnePlus Watch has benefited from the Warp Charge system and can get you up to a week’s usage with a charge of 20mins.
- Features: OnePlus Watch can connect to your wireless earbuds and play you upto 500 songs that can stored locally in the watch. OnePlus Watch claims to have more than 110 workout modes and has the ability to track sleep, stress, blood oxygen saturation, and heart rate. OnePlus won’t be using WearOS. Instead an RTOS style setup will do the task alongside a partner app installed on a paired smartphone. While connected the OnePlus Watch can attend to calls and show you notifications with an iOS app being in the pipeline.
One big constraint to the RTOS software is the limitations that comes with the usability factor and users will largely be mercy of OnePlus to introduce things like new apps and new watch faces. Some of this dilemma can be put aside by the fact that out of the box the OnePlus Watch will have about 50 odd watch faces with the ability to derive custom watch faces using onboard functions. A brilliant new feature that might just turn useful is the ability to control to an OnePlus TV (again, the “ecosystem”). It also comes with the ability to turn off the TV after 30 mins from the time the Watch senses the user has fallen asleep.
The brand has also launched a Cobalt Limited Edition with a gold-like sheen and claims to 4 times harder than stainless steel. Interestingly, it’s also devoid a nickel in the alloy it doesn’t stimulate allergic sensations.
The OnePlus Watch will retail for Rs. 16,999 for the Classic edition and an SBI offer can get it down to Rs. 14,999. The price for the limited-run Cobalt Alloy version is still unclear. It will go on sale on April 14th.
