Over the past few weeks, there have been multiple rumors of AMD’s Navi 12 and Navi 14 Graphics Cards launching soon. Wccftech today revealed the specifications and the benchmarks of the budget-end RX 5500M and the RX 5300M. Both are based on the 7nm process and will offer direct competition to NVIDIA’s budget mobile offerings. While there’s still no info on the desktop GPUs, the mobile graphics cards give us a clear idea regarding the rest of the line-up. Moreover, they will feature GDDR6 memory (which NVIDIA is reportedly adding to the GTX 1660 Super) and feature higher clock speeds.
Radeon RX 5500M Specs:
- Cores: 1408
- Boost Clock Speed: 1645 MHz
- Memory Clock: GDDR6 at 14Gb/s
- Bus Width: 128-bit (expected)
The RX 5500M will launch with 1408 Cores and a Boost Clock of 1645 MHz. Compared to a GTX 1650, which only offers 1024 cores and a boost of 1560 MHz, this is significantly higher. Moreover, it will also feature GDDR6 Memory at 14Gb/s. This puts the RX 5500M significantly higher than the GTX 1650 and at par with the GTX 1660. The leaked specifications of the GTX 1660 Super looks to be exactly similar to the RX 5500M and would not be too much of a stretch to assume that NVIDIA had a pretty good idea of AMD’s future offerings.
Wccftech also shared benchmarks and it looks like the rumored specs were on par with the final product. The RX 5300M easily outperforms the GTX 1650 while the RX 5500M even manages to perform better than the GTX 1660Ti MAX-Q. The MAX-Q versions of NVIDIA cards are underclocked for better thermal performance. That said, both the 7nm Graphics Cards are, without a doubt, the better option. While the testing was done based on the older 3DMark 11 and doesn’t provide much insight into DX12, they do provide a clear idea of expected real-world and gaming performance.
Both the GPUs used a Ryzen 7 processor and we can expect to see a combo of both in upcoming laptops. While manufacturers still haven’t revealed any information on Radeon 5500/5300 +Ryzen 7 laptops, we can expect them soon enough, most likely by the end of this year. We already know that Microsoft will have a Surface product with the Ryzen mobile processors. More will follow soon.
The best part? You expect these laptops launch under the $1,000 mark. We can also expect some decent budget offerings featuring the Ryzen 5 Processors along with the RX 5300M. Both the offerings will provide significant competition to the GTX 1650 and GTX 1660Ti laptops and are already forcing NVIDIA to change up their game.
