The RDNA powered Radeon RX 5700 GPUs mark AMD’s return to the performance segment of the graphics card market after a noted absence from the scene. The 7nm Navi cards provide stiff competition to NVIDIA’s lower-end RTX Super cards all the while being cheaper. Sure, they lack the RTCores that the Turing architecture leverages for ray-tracing, but for now, that won’t be a big issue as there aren’t many RTX based games in the market. In the lower-end or entry-level segment, ray-tracing becomes irrelevant as NVIDIA itself admits and the GTX 16 series cards are proof of that. AMD is going to reveal the Navi 14 based RX 5600/5500 GPUs in the coming months to tackle them and today we have a possible benchmark that gives an idea of what they’ll offer:
A while back another CompuBench score of a Navi 14 part was leaked but that was a lower-end product, most likely the successor to the RX 560 or the 570. This GPU is significantly faster than the Radeon RX 570, offering a performance advantage of as much as 50%. As such, it’s most likely going to be the replacement for the RX 580 and a GTX 1660 competitor.
And look at that, seems like I might be right. The Navi 14 GPU is clearly faster than the GTX 1660, and since there’s no RTX, NVIDIA doesn’t have the ray-tracing advantage either. Here, the battle will be fought on the good old FPS terms. If this Navi 14 part indeed turns out to be faster than , then NVIDIA will have to consider slashing the prices of the lower-end Turing parts. I doubt they’ll release a Super variant of these models but let’s see.
