Roughly a month back, AMD released the world’s first 16 core consumer, the Ryzen 9 3950X that runs at a base clock of 3.5GHz and a boost of 4.7GHz. It broke several records a short while after the official announcement both on Geekbench as well as Cinebench. However, these top-scores rarely stay unchallenged for long and as it turns out, another overclocked Ryzen 9 3950X has beaten the existing world record set by its lower-clocked brethren.
The number crunching benchmark was posted by Twitter user “uzzi38” with the CPU running at 5.4GHz across all sixteen cores. Like the earlier one, this new score was also achieved on an MSI MEG X570 Godlike paired with G.Skill Trident Z Royal Memory running at 4533MHz. The chip was pushed to its absolute limit thanks to LN2 cooling and a voltage of 1.776V (one of the highest we’ve ever seen with Ryzen).
The Ryzen 3000 CPUs are said to run at all-core overclocked frequencies thanks to an improved thermal design (soldered), unlike Intel’s chips that run at single and double core boost clocks. The same test bench (5GHz) was also used for the previous top-score which came out to be 5,434 points, but this time around it was even faster with 5,501 points.
The Zen architecture is known to benefit from faster memory, which is once again apparent here. On Geekbench we’ve already seen the Ryzen 9 3950X beat both the Core i9-9900K as well as the i9-9980XE in both the single-threaded as well as the double-threaded benchmarks.
