Zee5’s Abhay 2 Review: As Barbaric and Horrifying as it Can Get

Abhay 2 premiered on 14 August 2020. Directed by Ken Ghosh and produced by B.P. Singh, the series stars Kunal Khemu, Ram Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, Bidita Bag, Raghav Juyal, Indraneil Sengupta, and Asheema Vadaan.

Cannibals and Murderers

Abhay 2 features some cruel and dangerous criminals on loose in Lucknow. The series doesn’t build up on officer Abhay’s past much, it straight away moves to gritty and blood-filled murders without wasting much of its viewer’s time. In this season, Abhay has drifted away from his family but is still lowkey haunted by his conscience. However, that does not stop him from being a top-notch cop.

There are, however, some common elements like a reporter who is into every case and a sidekick constable who is always jolly and will pass on silly jokes. One surprise I got was Chunky Pandey as an antagonist in his OTT debut!

Ram Kapoor is the main anti-hero this season. He enters late but manages to keep up the fear and suspense revolving around his character. Bidita Bag comes across as a sadist psycho killer, who finds orgasmic pleasures in inflicting pain and ultimately pulls teeth out of dead bodies as a souvenir.

The series carries itself with the perfect amount of gore, blood, mystery, and fear. There are no dialogues full of verbal abuse and I mention this specifically because adding extra ‘gaalis’ is the new normal. It is engaging and will gross you out but you won’t want to leave the mysteries unsolved.

Abhay Pratap Singh is pushed to the limits of his powers of deduction and endurance and this doesn’t let the series progress with even a single dull moment. Each episode features a gut-wrenching criminal and in the initial 3 episodes, it’s Chunky Pandey in Brain Soup; Ram Kapoor in The Game Begins; and Bidita Bag in One-legged Skeleton.

STREAM IT! Abhay 2 is a must-watch series with a star cast whom I found flawless. The series manages to keep you hooked and intrigued through out its 3 episodes. The series does not move on a flat line. Instead, each episode has a curve of its own.

The cast is well-thought-out and executed and every character has its fair share of detailing to it. All this makes Abhay 2 an engaging series.
