Japanese developer and publisher Falcom has been making a name for itself in the West, thanks to the Legend of Heroes franchise. The latest entry in the Ys franchise Ys VIII Lacrimosa Of Dana today got a PC port. The game was ported from the PS4 to the PC by NISA games, and the launch date has been delayed multiple times.
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana is now available for PC, PlayStatìon 4, PlayStation Vita in all regions. It will release on the Nintendo Switch in the latter half of the year.
However, as per the Steam reviews the game is in bad shape, and NISA hasn’t exactly put in much effort to fix that. The rating for Ys VIII on Steam at the moment stands at “Very Negative” with the gamers criticizing the lack of efforts on the part of the developer.
The graphics options are bare-minimum, merely having an on and off option, and no support for changing the quality. It is a shame that one of the best RPGs got this kind of treatment on the PC. Comparatively XSEED games did a much better job of localizing and porting the Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel games. Those games not only had a detailed graphics menu, but also ran smoothly without any technical or control issues at all. From the look of things Ys VIII seems to be headed into rough times on the PC, thanks to NISA games. Here is the official press release:

For the first week, seems that NISA is giving away a ton of DLCs to people who purchase the game. It doesn’t seem to be working however.
We’re happy to announce three DLC for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana! The three DLC that will be available for FREE for one week upon the April 16, 2018 launch includes:
The reviewers on Steam seem downright pissed. A couple of Steam reviews for Ys VII go as follows:
After 1 year of waiting, multiple delays, I still bought the game. NISA, I won’t buy any of your games in future, this port is disrespectful to everyone.
I have 1060 (not ti, chill), I play Battlefield on maximum settings and I get 20 FPS in the game. Also graphics are weird, looks like streched so no native resolution support either. This can’t be happening in 2018.
If you are still thinking about buying this game DON’T. This game is BROKEN ALL AROUND.
