Xiaomi’s mobile gaming sub-brand, Black Shark, has finally launched its highly anticipated phone in China after teasing for weeks. Black Shark has unveiled two new versions of its gaming-centric smartphones, the Black Shark 3 and the Black Shark 3 Pro. Both devices share similar specs and design, but the pro variant gets a few additional features for the gaming enthusiasts.

Of course, both Xiaomi devices come equipped with the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC along with 5G connectivity, which seems to be all the rage these days. The devices have a similar array of triple cameras on the back, the primary being a 64MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary is a 13MP ultrawide lens with f/2.25 aperture while the third is a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, both devices house a 20MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The only difference is the Pro variant comes with support for laser focus. The devices also support the 90Hz refresh rate along with a 270Hz touch sampling rate for a better gaming experience.

One of the areas where the phones differ is the display department, with the Pro edition having a clear edge. Black Shark 3 Pro has a bigger 7.1-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD(1440p) resolution. Whereas, the non-Pro variant has a smaller 6.67-inch display with Full HD(1080p) resolution.

In terms of battery, the Black Shark 3 Pro packs a massive 5000mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging. On the other hand, the cheaper standard model gets a 4720mAh unit which tops at 30W only (8GB model). Black Shark has also provided a magnetic charging connector on the rear panel that is capable of 18W charging.

Talking about storage configurations, the Black Shark 3 gets two variants, 128GB and 256GB, and both of them come with faster UFS 3.0. Whereas, the more expensive model only comes with 256GB of storage. In terms of RAM, the 12GB variant of the Black Shark 3 and both the variants of the 3 Pro get LPDDR5. While the base variant (8GB) of Black Shark 3 is stuck with older RAM tech – LPDDR4X.

One of the unique features about the Black Shark 3 Pro is the physical pop-up shoulder buttons that provide extra functionality during gaming. Besides, the smartphones also retain the good old headphone jack this time around. Both devices get liquid cooling with copper piping that sandwich the logic board. In terms of connectivity, the Black Sharks have Bluetooth 5 and Wi-fi 6 support. Black Shark 3 will be available in four colours – Midnight Black, Frozen Silver, Knight Grey, and Faerie Pink. Whereas, Black Shark 3 Pro will come in Blasting Black and Knight Grey.

As of now, the devices are available in China only with no information on global availability. The Black Shark 3 is priced at CNY 3,499 (roughly Rs. 36,800) for the base 8GB+128GB model and will go on sale on March 6.
