Xiaomi has finally confirmed the launch of its new QLED TV in India on December 16 at 12 noon, after teasing its launch with the tagline “Quantum Leaps Ahead”. This was shared by the company on its Twitter profile with a short video of the same tagline it has been using to tease the launch of the lineup. The post also confirmed the date and time of launch. This could be the Mi TV 5 Pro, which was launched in China in 2019, although the name of the product has not been specified yet.

Nothing else is known about the TV, other than the fact that it will have a QLED display. This will be the first time Xiaomi will offer QLED technology on its TVs in India, as it has been selling LED TVs so far. QLED is known for offering better brightness and colours with improved overall picture quality over LEDs.

With this launch, Xiaomi will face competition from Samsung, TCL and OnePlus, all of which offer QLED TVs in India, with TCL probably being its closest competitor in terms of pricing. But, looking at Xiaomi’s pricing strategy means that it will probably undercut the competition with lower prices.

Xiaomi launched the Mi TV 5 Pro in China in November 2019, with sizes ranging from 55 inches upto 75 inches. All of the models in the series had 4K Ultra-HD QLED screens, with the prices starting from CNY 3,699 (approximately Rs. 41,700). The TV has built-in HDR support and runs on Android TV with PatchWall launcher on top. The Mi TV 5 Pro has 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is higher than what is offered by most of the other brands.

I think that the 55 inch variant of the TV will be priced around Rs 49,999, to have a price advantage over the QLED TV from TCL. It marks an interesting, higher-end option in Xiaomi’s home-entertainment focused product line, which also includes a streaming stick. This TV will be positioned above the current 4X series offered by Xiaomi, which is the most expensive series in the country right now.
