CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher 3 will be getting a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The upgrade will be free for current PS4, Xbox One, and PC owners.

“Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements – including ray tracing and faster loading times – across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released in 2015 to universal acclaim, now regarded as one of the best RPG games ever. While the original game came out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it also saw a surprising release on Nintendo Switch. The franchise has become even more popular recently thanks to the Netflix series.

It’s great news for potential PS5 and Xbox Series X buyers as the next-gen console hardware is plenty powerful for handling ray tracing. CDPR providing free upgrades to current-gen owners is also a nice move, something we expected from a company dedicated to providing the most value to gamers.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen edition will release in 2021 after the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch.
