Sega has released a new trailer for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4 that gives players insight into the “BLiTZ” battle system as well as information about the new Grenadier class and “Brave” system.
Check out the new trailer below:
The “BLiTZ” battle system features a mix of real time and turn-based elements. In Command mode, the player is treated to a top-down view of the entire field and it is here that strategizing and unit selection comes into play. Once the player selects a unit, the system shifts to Action mode where the player can control the selected unit, from a third-person perspective, to take out enemies. These two modes are what make up the “BLiTZ” system.
The newly introduced class, Grenadier, is a unit that has the ability to attack from a distance using a grenade launcher. They are also able to attack enemies out of their sight as long as an allied unit can see the enemy’s location.
The “Brave” system is a mechanic that has a chance of activating when a unit’s HP reaches zero. Normally in Valkyria Chronicles, a unit whose HP falls to zero will enter a state called critical condition whereby if they are not rescued by an allied unit within three turns or before they are attacked by an enemy, they will be lost to the player forever. However, there is a chance that upon hitting zero HP, the “Brave” system will activate granting the unit the ability to “Stand Up” and take one action while having the chance to receive no damage or they can use “Entrust” to provide their nearest ally with +1 CP and buffs.
There is also an “Order” system that will allow the player to perform special actions in exchange for CP and a “Personal Potential” system where a unit will be able to access a unique array of skills to help them in battle.
