The latest Nintendo Direct revealed a whole slew of games coming to both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS, and among them is Undertale, the hit RPG by Toby Fox. The release date is currently unknown, with the official teaser stating that the game would be released ‘eventually’, but it is most likely to be out within the year of 2018.
Undertale is a role playing game released in 2015 on Steam for both Microsoft Windows and OSX. It was later released for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in August of 2017. The game has the player take the role of a human child who’s fallen to the underground from Earth.
After being taken in by Toriel, a motherly goat monster, you embark on a quest to return to the surface. Along the way, you encounter various monsters and other strange creatures. The game mechanics operate in such a way that you have the choice of sparing monsters or mercilessly killing them. Depending on your choices, the ending of the game differs and your subsequent runs of the game are also affected by your choices.
The game has been critically acclaimed for its design, writing, musical score and story. It has received several ‘Game of the Year’ Awards from various publications and conventions, and has been delegated a rating of ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ on its Steam page.
