Check out the reveal in the trailer below:
The World Ends With You was released for the Nintendo DS back in 2008 and has gone on to become one of the system’s most iconic games, appearing in many a list as one of the best DS games of all time.
The original game was quite unique in it’s design by making full use of the various functionalities offered by the DS. It’s combat made use of both the system’s screens by allowing the player to simultaneously control the character on the top screen through the directional pad while controlling another character on the bottom screen with touch input. Other features such as the microphone were also used for certain attacks.
The game follows the amnesiac Neku Sakuraba as he finds himself dead and stuck in the Reaper’s Game where winners get a second chance at life. The story, especially Neku’s character arc was praised by many critics upon the game’s release. It’s aesthetic presentation and soundtrack were also highly regarded.
The game also received mobile port titled “Solo Remix” in 2012 for IOS and 2014 for Android. The port replaced the original’s dual screen combat system for a simpler one focusing only on touch input. The graphics were also updated with redrawn HD sprites and the soundtrack included remixes of various songs from the original.
The new port will once again allow this old classic to reach a wider audience and with the inclusion of a new scenario fans can only hope that a sequel will soon be on its way.
