The Third Day Episode 1 Review: Nauseatingly Enjoyable

The Third Day is a drama miniseries starring Jude Law, Naomie Harris, Katherine Waterston, Emily Watson, Paddy Considine and Mark Lewis Jones, among others. The first part focusing on Jude Law’s character is called Summer. The last, starring Naomie Harris, will fall under Winter. There’s another part in between the two called Autumn which will feature a live event in London. These three segments will be interconnected with each other and will create a complete story at some point.

The Third Day episode 1 Review

The Third Day episode 1 opens with Sam talking on the phone with his wife and he’s angry. Something has happened at home which can essentially ruin the family. However, Sam has demons of his own that we get to kind of witness throughout the episode. The story hints at something horrible in his life, but it’s not clear just yet.

However, by a very twisted progression of events, he ends up on an island which screams “cult” and reminded me of Midsommar. The people seem nice and friendly at first – little too friendly. But there’s something bubbling beneath the friendliness. Especially when it comes to Mrs Martin, something’s really up there. There’s also another person in the midst of all this, although The Third Day episode 1 introduces her at the fag end. There are a lot of themes that the first episode touches upon, hopefully they come into play in the later episodes.

There’s a lot of mystery and intrigue surrounding the The Third Day episode 1 and it gives you too many questions to ponder over. However, the winners over here are the actors who did a splendid job. Jude Law is amazing as the intrigued, tensed and confused but equally enamoured Sam. Every emotion is deftly conveyed by Law and there’s not a chance in the world that you’d miss it.

The Third Day episode 1

The Third Day episode 1 looks brilliant as well. There’s a general feeling of dread and mystery in the air. Even during the scenes when everything’s seemingly happy and everyone’s fine, there’s this feeling of something’s about to happen – all thanks to the cinematography. It’s honestly such an odd feeling that is prevalent throughout and it sets the tone of the next episodes.

With five more episodes to go, it remains to be seen how The Third Day comes together because there are already too many questions!
