Tesla and SpaceX Facebook pages have apparently been deleted as the CEO of both companies, Elon Musk, seems to have promoted the #deletefacebook movement. The movement started in relation to the Cambridge Analytica scandal that has resulted in a data compromise of nearly 50 million Facebook users. The scandal has reduced Facebook’s market value by billions of dollars.  Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsAppEarlier this week, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton tweeted, “It is time. #deletefacebook.” In 2014, Facebook bought the instant messaging app WhatsApp for $19 billion. On Friday (23rd March), Musk replied to Acton’s tweet with, “What’s Facebook?”. A fan who had been following the thread looped in with a message of his own which asked Musk to “Delete SpaceX page on Facebook if you’re the man?” to which he replied, “I didn’t realize there was one. Will do.” In his subsequent tweets, Musk told the world that the page “will be gone soon” and that he has “literally never seen it even once”. Within half an hour of his last tweet, the official Facebook pages for both SpaceX and Tesla had vanished.Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of FacebookMusk expressed that Facebook’s influence has started to affect Instagram, social media’s favourite photo sharing app. Since Facebook actually owns Instagram, this is highly probable. The tech mogul’s bitterness towards Facebook, however, goes back to 2016 when Mark Zuckerberg implied that SpaceX was responsible for a failed launch that had destroyed a Facebook satellite. As of now, Facebook is stuck in a scandal that involves the British data analysis firm Cambridge Analytica. The firm was also closely related to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The company has obtained data from as many as 50 million Facebook profiles without their consent or any justifiable reason. The resulting outrage has made Zuckerberg apologize formally and unveil his plans for new tools that help users protect their data and ensure the site’s security. Elon Musk is the latest notable tech entrepreneur to address this scandal headfirst.
