Well, some good news here, folks! The OnePlus 5T root is now available, which means you can finally gain superuser access on your phone, and use your favorite root apps and flash custom ROMs too.

The first step is to unlock the bootloader of your Oneplus 5T, then to flash the TWRP recovery and finally to flash your choice of superuser (supersu or magisk)

We have covered everything below in our guide to help you root the OnePlus 5T easily and securely. Make sure you follow all instructions carefully and if there are any issues you’re facing, ask in the comments section and we’ll surely get back to you.

Note: Unlocking the bootloader or rooting the phone does NOT void the warranty of Oneplus devices. This process will wipe all data from your phone so make sure you take a full backup.

How to unlock bootloader on Oneplus 5T:

  • Setup ADB and Fastboot on your PC.

    • Download 15 second ADB from here

    • Run the exe file and follow the on-screen instructions

  • Enable OEM unlock and USB debugging:

    • Go to your phone’s Settings » About phone » and tap “Build number” Seven times. This will enable Developer options on your OnePlus 5T.

    • Now go to Settings » Developer options » and look for “Enable OEM unlock”option, tick the checkbox next to it.

    • On the same page, tick the USB debugging checkbox as well.

  • Connect your phone to PC and open a command window on the PC. (Shift+right click)

  • Reboot your OnePlus 5T into Bootloader/Fastboot mode by issuing the following command:  adb reboot bootloader

Check your phone’s screen, if it asks for “Allow USB debugging”, accept it          by selecting OK/Yes.

  • Once it is booted into Bootloader mode, issue the following command to finally unlock bootloader on your OnePlus 5T:  fastboot oem unlock

(This will unlock the bootloader on your OnePlus 5T and also completely                    wipe your phone while doing that. So make sure you backup everything                       important  on your device before unlocking the bootloader)

  • Once bootloader is unlocked, your OnePlus 5T will automatically reboot. In case it asks for bootloader unlock permission on the device, accept it.

That’s all. Your OnePlus 5T bootloader should be unlocked now and you can install/flash a custom recovery like TWRP on it.

How to Flash TWRP on Oneplus 5T:

  • Download OnePlus 5T TWRP recovery .img file from here and save it to a separate folder on your PC.

  • Make sure USB debugging is enabled on the Oneplus 5T

  • Open the folder where you saved the recovery .img file in the first step.

  • Now open a command window inside that folder (Shift + Right click).

  • Connect the phone to the PC. And type the following into the command window we opened above to boot your device into bootloader/fastboot mode:

    adb reboot bootloader

└ If you get a permission dialogue to “Allow USB debugging”, tap OK.

  • Once your OnePlus 5T boots into bootloader mode, issue the following command into command window to flash the TWRP recovery .img file:

    fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

└ Here modify twrp.img with the name of your TWRP recovery .img file, OR    change your TWRP recovery filename to twrp.img and use the command above.

  • Once TWRP is successfully flashed, issue the following command to reboot:

    fastboot reboot

TWRP recovery should now be installed on your Oneplus 5T. To boot into the freshly installed recovery, simply issue the adb reboot recovery command from command window when your device boots into system. (or press and hold “Power button + Volume up” when device is switched off). Make sure you swipe to allow modifications when TWRP first shows up.

How to root Oneplus 5T:

Once you have installed TWRP recovery, you can now root your OnePlus 5T pretty easily

  1. Download SuperSU zip file from here and transfer it to your phone’s storage.

  2. Boot your OnePlus 5T into TWRP recovery.

  3. Tap on Install and select the SuperSU zip file that you transferred to your device in Step 1.

  4. After selecting the .zip file, do Swipe to Confirm Flash on the bottom of screen to begin the flashing process.

  5. Once SuperSU is flashed, you’ll get Reboot System option, select it.

That’s it. Your OnePlus 5T is now rooted and there will be a Super SU app present in your app drawer. To verify, download/install any root checker app from the Play Store.
