Jio Glass– Reliance Jio is in buzz in the market for various reasons, recently Reliance announced that Jio TV+ will curate OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, and others into one app- a wholesome deal. During Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) 43rd Annual General Meeting, the company showcased ‘Jio Glass’ which quickly grabbed everyone’s attention.
RIL stated that Jio Glass is designed for teachers and students, it will enable the users to create 3D virtual rooms and conduct holographic classes via the Jio Mixed Reality service in real-time. It’s like a far fetched dream turning into reality. Apart from this, they can also be used to perform virtual meetings!
“Jio Glass is at the cutting edge of technology that provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience,” said Kiran Thomas, President, Reliance Industries Limited during the keynote.
Jio Glass Specifications & Release Date
In terms of designing, Jio Glass comes with a plastic frame that has a camera in the front between the two lenses. At the back, it has a small platform that will presumably provide the MR capabilities and speakers and battery on the sides, the handles.
The device weighs just 75 grams and comes with a cable that can be attached to the company’s newly launched MR glasses and a smartphone for providing internet connectivity. The design shares a similar design with Bose Frames that was launched in India back in 2019.
In terms of features, Jio Glass comes with a personalized audio system and according to the company, it supports all standard audio formats. It offers HD quality video and at the moment it supports more than 25 apps. Users can make holographic video calls with people who can join in 3D avatars and in regular video calling format.
Once users join in a call, they can share and view presentations on a large virtual screen. Jio Glass also works on voice commands for calling individuals.
During the demo, Kiran Thomas called Akash Ambani simply by saying, “Hello Jio, please call Akash.” While currently what AI system the company is using isn’t clear but the recent Jio-Google partnership indicates the use of Google assistant in Jio Glass.
Regarding the price and a definite release day and date, Reliance Jio hasn’t revealed any such information yet. The battery capacity is yet to be revealed as well. It is expected that consumers will get more details about the Jio Glass when it is ready for a wider public rollout.
