The creepy Reddit corner, where only the brave of heart visit, is dealing with a war as old as time – content theft.

Nosleep, one of the most famous subreddits, has gone private for a week to protest against YouTubers stealing their content. This subreddit particularly has over 14 million subscribers.

For anyone not familiar with r/nosleep, it’s a place for people to submit original horror stories. According to Reddit Metrics, the site is currently home to almost 2 million subreddits, and nosleep is at the top overall. Notably, stories posted there regularly receive thousands of upvotes (one post has around 38,000) with new stories posted daily. It thus goes without saying that this move will affect a considerable number of people.

An r/nosleep moderator has additionally discussed in a video how some YouTube creators are narrating nosleep stories. However, this is being done without permission from the original author, without credit, or without sharing the video’s ad revenue. Protesting against the problem, the moderators thus decided to take the drastic step.

The link in the message, posted when you open r/nosleep, takes you to another post that explains the decision in-depth.

The subreddit will become public again at 12:00 AM ET on Monday, March 2, 2020.
