Rumours have been swirling around for a while about Sony’s games showcase, and trademark leaks have indicated that it might be called PSX, or the PlayStation Experience.
From the seedy underbelly of the internet, 4chan, There emerged a rumor earlier in the month about a secret email being sent to Sony employees about a new Sony PlayStation Showcase. Usually, 4chan posts are ignored for they are very easy to lie in. This one held its ground and has proven to have some truth in it.
When Sony no-showed this year’s E3, many people speculated that they were going to host their own showcase. Since there wasn’t an E3 in 2020, a games showcase is long overdue from Sony.
A notable game leaker, Navtra, also revealed that a Sony event was close, as close as two weeks. Navtra has been a reliable source in the past, leaking the Final Fantasy origin game as well as Spider-Man Miles Morales and Sackboy – A Big Adventure to be cross-gen games.
Now, a smoking gun has seemingly emerged in regards to the rumours, as Sony has filed a Trademark for the PlayStation Exclusive, or the PSX.
The PSX Trademark was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, on the 11th of June 2021, and is apparently registered for “Arranging, organizing, and conducting exhibitions and conferences in the fields of entertainment and video games for non-business purposes and non-commercial purposes;”, as well as a myriad of other things.
So, the PSX is happening, that much looks to be true. What games and studios can be expected to be present and showcased? Well, according to the previous 4chan leak, a lot of well known and previously affiliated with Sony developers, some of whom might be a little spoiler heavy, so proceed with caution.
Guerrilla Games, the developers of Horizon Zero Dawn are said to have more details about the details on its sequel – Horizon Forbidden West. The game had already been revealed some time ago, and the release date is expected to drop at Sony PSX.
Other game studios, such as Sony Santa Monica Studios, Capcom, Square Enix, Ubisoft, and EA are also rumoured to be at the PlayStation Experience or the PSX.
Sony is also expected to reveal the latest PlayStation VR experience, the PSVR2. A new remake or remastered experience by Bluepoint games was also rumoured.
