It’s that time of year again; no, I’m not talking about the horrific March; I’m talking about the new OnePlus smartphones. Well, there’s one more person who’s more excited than us, Pete Lau, CEO OnePlus, who recently teased a “moonshot” announcement scheduled on March 8th, and there are high chances that the announcement is going to be about the upcoming OnePlus 9 series which is expected to launch later this month.

The teaser titled ‘moonshot’ reads, “Something new is on the horizon,” along with a view of Earth from outer space, which has an uncanny resemblance with the “Earthrise” photograph from NASA’s Apollo 8 mission.

Interestingly, the “Earthrise” photograph was taken by a Hasselblad camera, and OnePlus is rumored to be working with the Hasselblad on the cameras of its upcoming OnePlus 9 series. So, the March 8 announcement could be about the OnePlus and Hasselblad partnership, and likely, we’ll get a launch date for new OnePlus flagships.

OnePlus is launching its flagship series earlier than usual, and this time OnePlus has three new smartphones in the store for us – the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and 9R along with a much-rumored smartwatch.

Well, Amazon India has also teased the ‘moonshot’ announcement with the same teaser image shared by the Launch, and during some dig up we found references to the OnePlus 9′ codeword, ‘Lemonade,’ which somewhat confirms that the OnePlus is going to give us some scoop about its next flagship smartphones.

OnePlus 9 Specifications and Availability

In the meantime, Evan Blass has shared some new information, and according to Blass, the OnePlus 9 will be available for pre-order starting March 23. Also, OnePlus will be offering a free pair of OnePlus Buds Z with the vanilla OnePlus 9 and a pair of special Steve Harrington Edition of the Buds Z with the OnePlus 9 Pro pre-orders.

The Hasselblad partnership is expected to be limited to the OnePlus 9 Pro, which is expected to bring a quad-camera setup onboard consisting of a 64MP main sensor along with an ultrawide, macro, and depth camera.

The OnePlus 9 Pro will be featuring a curved 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED panel having a refresh rate of 120Hz. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Meanwhile, the vanilla OnePlus 9 is rumored to sport a flat 6.5-inch full HD+ panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC. It is expected to feature a triple camera setup at the rear consisting of a 48MP main sensor.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 9R is rumored to be the cheapest of the lot, with a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 690 chipset, and a 48MP main camera.

Well, it will be interesting to see what OnePlus has in store for us on March 8.
