OnePlus today announced it’s latest flagship lineup, including the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, and as rumoured, there’s a third smartphone joining the family, the OnePlus 9R. Well, for starters, the OnePlus 9R fills in the gap between OnePlus’ budget-oriented Nord series and its latest flagship smartphones while promising to deliver a flagship experience.
Well, the OnePlus 9R is not an entirely new device like its siblings; instead, it’s the OnePlus 8T with a new name and a similar design language to place it well along with its siblings.
The OnePlus 9R comes with a flat 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. There’s a hole-punch in the top-left corner housing a 16MP sensor for selfies.
Under the hood, it gets the recently announced Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870, which is a refreshed Snapdragon 865 found on the last year’s OnePlus 8T. The SoC inside is coupled with 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. There’s a vapor chamber inside to keep the thermals under control. A 4500mAh battery backs up the whole system with support for Warp Charge 65T, charging it from 0-100% in 39 minutes though it misses out on the wireless charging. Like its other two siblings, it has the support for 5G connectivity, supporting NSA: N78 and SA: N78 bands in India.
As far as optics are concerned, the 9R sports the good old 48MP IMX786 sensor with OIS accompanied by 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP monochrome camera. It can record 4K video at 60 fps, and slow-motion videos – 1080p at 240fps, 720p at 480fps. It also gets the EIS on the top of OIS. Sadly, these cameras don’t get the taste of Hasselblad customization.
