After months of wait and weeks of OnePlus revealing its smartphones before launch, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro is here, though there is a third device in the lineup, the OnePlus 9R; you can know more about it here.
We know pretty much about the two, but here’s a roundup of OnePlus’ latest flagship series.
The vanilla OnePlus 9 features a flat 6.55-inch Full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED panel having a resolution of 2400 x 1080-pixel plus a 120Hz refresh rate. It comes with support for HDR10+ and a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 8/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256GB of UFS3.1 onboard storage. Like other Snapdragon 888 powered smartphones, this one also supports 5G connectivity and is specific, and it has support for n41 and n78 NSA/SA 5G bands out of the box. It runs OxygenOS 11 on top of Android 11, while in China, it comes with ColorOS 11 out of the box.
It comes with an updated haptic motor, and according to OnePlus’ keynote, there’s a larger vapour chamber than before and layers of graphite and copper, keeping the smartphone cool. It also gets the good old Fnatic Mode with a new name, ‘Pro Gaming Mode’, and Dolby Atmos supports dual speakers.
In case you missed it, OnePlus has collaborated with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad, and there’s more on it here.
The OnePlus 9 comes with a triple camera setup at the back; leading the pack is the 48MP IMX689 sensor from the OnePlus 8 Pro accompanied by a 50MP IMX766 ultra-wide sensor with a freeform lens and a 2MP monochrome camera. The camera system is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. There’s a 16MP f/2.4 IMX471 sensor at the front housed in the punch-hole camera at the left corner.
There’s a 4500mAh battery backing up the OnePlus 9, which can be charged from 1-100% in 29 minutes using the Wrap Charger 65T. The OnePlus 9 does come with support for wireless charging, but it’s not enabled for Indian retail units; but if you’re in North America or Europe, you can use any 15W Qi wireless charger to charge it.
OnePlus 9 Pro
As the name suggests, the 9 Pro is the OnePlus 9’s elder sibling with a bigger and better display, and it also gets an extra camera at the back.
Starting with the display, the 9 Pro gets a larger 6.7-inch Quad-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display having a 3216 x 1440 pixel resolution, a 10-bit colour depth and support for HDR-10+ with a peak brightness of 1300-nits. For starters, it has an LTPO panel which enables it to switch its refresh rate between 1Hz to 120Hz according to the type of content on your display. It also has an official IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Like the OnePlus 9 and several other android flagships, the 9 Pro also comes with Snapdragon 888 under the hood coupled with 8/12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256GB UFS 3.1. Well, everything else is just as same as the vanilla model.
The 9 Pro a 48MP f/1.8 custom Sony IMX789 sensor, a 50MP f/2.2 IMX766 ultra-wide sensor with a freeform lens, and a 2MP monochrome camera accompanied by an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3.3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom.
You get the option of recording 8K videos at 30fps, along with an ability to record time-lapse videos at 1080p and 4K at 30fps. There’s an option to shoot super slow-motion videos, recording 720p videos at 480fps and 1080p videos at 240fps.
It gets the same 4500mAh battery from the OnePlus 9, which can be charged entirely in 29 minutes using the 65W charger provided in the box. It further supports the Warp Charge 50 Wireless, using which the device can be wholly charged wirelessly within 43 minutes.
