Samsung’s One UI has been tipped for an update and will be called One UI 4.0. Tipster says that the Android 12 based skin will debut in Samsung’s flagship S21 series models in August.

One UI 4.0 to be based on the latest Android 12

Samsung’s very own skin, the One UI, runs on all the Samsung devices. One UI comes as a feature-rich take on Android and serves up a customised look and feel.

Based on Android 12, the One UI will use Samsung's own take on Material U.

Now sources have it that One UI is going to undergo a generation update due in August. The One UI 4.0, based on Android 12, will debut first in the S21 lineup of devices, Samsung’s current flagship series. It is then scheduled to trickle down onto other models from Samsung.

The One UI update will come onto the S21 series as a Beta update in August. The stable version will later be rolled out in late November or mid-December.

Tipster Chun has clarified the timeline on his thread. His line of Tweets also holds information regarding the specificity of the update. Given that this will be a generation change and the fact that Android 12 itself has gone to lengths, the extent of the update to the skin is going to be substantial.

The One UI 4.0 update is expected to come with a significant design overhaul. Updated icon packs and colour schematics are known changes. Over and above that, Samsung will also incorporate its version of Android 12’s Material U into the new-gen of its skin. This year’s One UI update will also see better optimisation for the latest chipsets and transfer performance gains that will be inherent from the Android 12 running underneath. Security framework Knox too, will see some work done, and so will the Notes app.

Samsung’s flagship S21 series starts at Rs. 69,999 in India.
