New Star Wars Trilogy Announced By Rian Johnson !

Star Wars is a series which has been through its ups and downs for decades. The original trilogy, envisioned by George Lucas was revolutionary when it first came out, startling audiences and changing the cinematic landscape with A New Hope. The subsequent sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi received critical acclaim and went on to be known as one of the greatest trilogies ever. However, the brand saw its first major disappointment with the next Prequel trilogy, garnering tons of negative reviews.

The next step by Disney (now in possession of Lucasfilm) was to continue the story with a new set of characters, & that is exactly what we got. The Force Awakens announced itself to be the first of a new ‘sequel’ trilogy, headed not by Lucas but by the company executives. While the first film was a success, it has to be said that J J Abrams played it safe by basically rehashing the story from A New Hope. The upcoming sequel, The Last Jedi seems to be treading a different path, with Rian Johnson at the helm, and from the looks of it, it seems to be taking a different (and fresh) approach. While Disney has announced the next chapter with Star Wars Episode IX, the mouse house gave the surprising announcement of the development of a new trilogy of films which reportedly won’t feature the Skywalkers.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.” said Kathleen Kennedy (President, Lucasfilm)

“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement.

“Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

With excitement running rampant about how this new trilogy will work, we can only speculate along with the fan community on whether it’s going to be as good as it sounds, or if it’s Disney just milking the franchise as much as it can.
