Star Wars fans, rejoice, because it seems that there is a new Obi-Wan movie on the horizon! Lucasfilm is in talks with Oscar nominated director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) to develop a new Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone movie. As many fans are aware, Lucasfilm plans to expand their hugely successful Star Wars franchise with a series of spin offs. These films will add to the main parts of the Skywalker family saga.
With Rogue One’s release last year, the audience proved they will turn up for anything even remotely connected to Star Wars, and Ron Howard’s Han Solo movie is slated for a May 2018 release. Fans theorized that a third standalone movie was is the offing, and Obi Wan’s return was heavily speculated.Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, fans have been hopeful for more new Star Wars films. Earlier this year, an alleged outline of Disney’s post-Episode IX was released online and it created a stir. Among the topics discussed were Obi Wan, and viewers have been keeping their fingers crossed.
Alec Guinness defined the role of Obi Wan Kenobi, but it was Ewan McGregor who truly brought the character to life in the prequels. Though the prequel trilogy didn’t have the best viewer ratings, McGregor is considered the best part of it, and many viewers wanted him to return. The actor has has often said he would happily return if asked, so there’s an added amount of excitement about this new project already.
