It’s been quite a year for Marvel, both as a movie studio and as well as for video games. While the company doesn’t itself develop or publish games, it does hold the right to characters to be used in various other media. And now, if the latest rumors are true, it seems like Marvel may be involved in developing a new Fantastic Four game!
It all started when Marvel Games‘ Twitter account changed its profile picture to this:
Bit of a stretch? Kind of. Many trades started reporting on the potential Fantastic Four game soon after. Even trusted leakers like Jeremy Conrad, who’ve successfully leaked information about Marvel’s projects in the past, seem to have taken an interest. And no, it’s not related to Square Enix’s upcoming The Avengers Project. Partly because
After the successful launch of Spider-Man PS4, it seems like a good time to invest in new Marvel properties for video games. For years, the company was criticized for not participating in the gaming industry, with only the LEGO games being representative of Marvel’s brand. Rocksteady has already made a number of successful Batman games, with a new Superman game on the horizon.
Earlier this week, the company also tweeted out that a new studio, Second Dinner has been created in partnership with Marvel. More evidence of a new video game(s)?
With a potential Fantastic Four game, the company could boost the popularity of Marvel’s first family. After all, the movie division, Marvel Studios, will finally get the rights for the characters back this year. They may even make a new Fantastic Four series for the upcoming Disney+ service.
In any case, we’re eager to see what steps Marvel takes next. With a sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man all but confirmed, and a new Avengers game on the horizon, it’s a great time to be a Marvel fan.
