Love On The Spectrum premiered on Netflix on 22 July 2020. The 5 episode long series revolves around Autistic individuals looking out for love
The series tells about how dating is complicated for everyone and equally for the people on the spectrum.
Dating, Love and Relations!
“The Autism spectrum is so diverse and that’s it’s beauty” – Jodi
Love On The Spectrum is not the first dating or sort of matchmaking show on Netflix but it is definitely a show that will give you butterflies and smiles! The Australian series follows a rotating cast of singles as they experience dating and search for love while they live their lives on the spectrum.
The best part of the show to me was not just the purity and positivity it brought forward with the idea of telling people that everybody deserves to be loved the same way. The series doesn’t pity people on the spectrum, it embraces them and treats them as equal, smart, and brilliant people. Exactly, the way how it should be.
It brings forward the issue of modern times, where people won’t date people on the spectrum since they want no association whatsoever with an autistic person. Which is heartless and rude, honestly.
And as Sue Zhao says “Fall in love with someone who makes you glad to be different”, I couldn’t agree more!
The show is affectionate and forms a connection with the audiences. It’s wholesome, beautiful, and sweet! In an era where shows like Too Hot to Handle have become the ideal dating shows with nonsensical content, Love On The Spectrum has its heart in the right place! A place where it should be, depicting the purity of the tainted emotion love.
The series features Michael, Chloe, Lotus, Kelvin, Olivia, Andrew, Maddi, Mark, and other people on the spectrum. The series does not leave loose ends about the dating lives of the individuals towards the end it sums it all up. Giving the viewers a wholesome ride.
Jodi Rodgers, A relationship counselor and the off-camera voice of director Cian O’Clery during interviews is heard in the whole duration of the series. The makers made it a point to keep people’s comfort their utmost priority throughout! Love on the Spectrum has an LGBTQ-inclusive cast that is introduced gradually throughout the season.
Stream It or Skip It?
STREAM IT! The series beautifully ends with Jimmy proposing Sharnae and it will definitely make you smile like crazy! The families throughout the show are immensely supportive and loving. The show celebrates love and difference with glory and compassion. After all, the beauty of existence is the difference and variations!
The series also manages to bust some myths revolving around autism. All in all, Love on the Spectrum is one of the best shows on Netflix and everyone should watch it.
