Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous premiered on 18th September 2020 on Netflix. Based on Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, the series is developed by Zack Stentz. It is 8 episodes long, with each episode’s duration being 24 minutes. The voice cast stars Paul-Mikél Williams, Sean Giambrone, Kausar Mohammed, Jenna Ortega, Ryan Potter, Raini Rodriguez, Jameela Jamil, Glen Powell, and others.

“A thrilling adventure awaits as six campers uncover the wonders and secrets of Isla Nublar. Discover the other side of the island in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous”

It’s All Fun And Games Till The Dinosaurs Escape…

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

“We thought it’d be fun. We thought we’d be safe. But we didn’t realize the horror waiting for us on the Island. Claws, Teeth, Screaming…so much screaming.”

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous revolves around 6 kids who join the Jurassic camp – Darius, a die-hard dinosaur nerd who is living his dream here, Brooklynn, a teenage social media star struggling for attention and wants to stay up to the mark and is addicted to technology, Kenji, a privileged young boy whose father is rich and wants to look strong but is soft-hearted, Sammy, an exuberant girl who wants to be friends with everyone, Yaz, an athlete who prefers being left alone and is a bit mature, and Ben, an anxious and shy kid who didn’t want to be here in the first place!

While their camp starts just fine, it’s not a smooth ride at first and things go completely south when they realize that the dinosaurs have escaped their fencing and are all ready to take over, like every Jurassic World movie ever made.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

One scene I found absolutely parallel to 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was when the kids go out on a tour in an electric ball, are struck by dinosaurs and have to fight their way out. There are various other moments in the series where you can draw the connection back to the franchise’s other films. In some way or the other, the series is about a group misfit teens who come together in times of distress stronger than before, and stand united to fight the dinosaurs.

The series ends in a bit of a grim way, with the kids being put in a very tough situation on the Isla Nublar Island. It will make you question the others’ intentions and also make you fear for the children’s safety.

The ending note of the series paves way for another season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The series carries a balance of awe and fear with itself. Since the characters of the series are mainly young, you understand their anticipation, fear, and excitement.

Stream It or Skip It

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

STREAM IT! Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is a watch-worthy series. Being a family-friendly dinosaur series, it delivers what it promises. If you are familiar with the Jurassic Park series you would be able to link back to a lot of similar instances and scenes but at the end of it, fighting dinosaurs is super cool, especially when you are a kid. Surviving a life-threatening ordeal is every child’s dream!

The animation at points is spectacular and as amazing as it gets. It catches on to the DreamWorks-style work and merges well for the narrative, making it a more engaging watch! As I mentioned before, you can link back to the Jurassic Park franchise at various scenes. The animation work tries its best to give this series its own unique identity and at some point succeeds at doing that. DreamWorks Animation is yet again on point and satisfactory overall.
