Dad Wanted (Se Busca Papá) premiered on 11th September 2020 on Netflix. The Mexican-origin film is Directed by Javier Colinas and written by Victor Avelar, Javier Colinas, Paulette Hernandez, and Fernando Barreda Luna. The 102-minutes-long film stars Juan Pablo Medina, Ela Velden, Luis Ernesto Franco, Luis Arrieta, and Silvia Navarro alongside other cast members.

Let’s Cast A Dad!

Dad Wanted

Netflix’s latest tween drama – Dad Wanted revolves around Blanca (Natalie Coronado) who loves riding a bike and is a rebel in her ways. Blanca belongs from a wealthy household but her relationship with her mother, Fernanda (Silvia Navarro), is troubled, so much so that she doesn’t say a word to her. As a big BMX cycling race is approaching, Banca needs her mother to sign her up which obviously, she doesn’t, and here starts the search for a fake dad who can just sign her up! And as the movie progresses she bonds with Alberto (Juan Pabo Medina), an actor-turned-cab driver, who has his fair share of trouble and there’s a happy ending!

Now, the premise of the movie is pleasing as everything is happening behind Fernanda’s back but the movie is slow-paced and, ultimately, her mother agrees to sign her up listening to the same stranger she had earlier yelled on – Alberto! All it takes here is an emotional story, a drunk man, and a few tears. And that’s it.

The movie spends a huge amount of time on developing Bianca and her mother’s relationship, only to put it on the backseat. While the heartfelt emotion still remains intact, it still feels stretched out. The storyline isn’t crisp and it tends to go all over the place. The only thing that’ll get you going is Juan Pabo Medina’s performance.

Though, the movie at times might feel more tilted towards Alberto’s emotion. The whole side of Bianca growing without a father or her mother managing as a single parent seems to have been skipped on. All we see his Blanca’s anger on her mother because she feels her father died because of her!

A promising cast overall, a few heartfelt moments, Bianca’s progress with her mother and her relationship, true friendship, a ray of hope and more altogether make this movie a good watch but with the lack of wanted pace!
