Microsoft has launched a new tool that is helping one recover deleted or corrupted files with Microsoft File Recovery Tool. This file recovery tool show helps a user save their Windows 10 data. This particular tool is, however, a command-in-line application which means that this app is only available on the Microsoft store.

“Accidentally deleted an important file? Wiped clean your hard drive? Unsure of what to do with corrupted data? Windows File Recovery can help recover your personal data,” the Store listing for the app explains. “For photos, documents, videos and more, Windows File Recovery supports many file types to help ensure that your data is not permanently lost. Recovering from a camera or SD card? Try Signature mode, which expands beyond NTFS recovery and caters to your storage device needs. Let this app be your first choice for helping to find what you need from your hard drive, SSD (*limited by TRIM), USB drive, or memory cards.”

It is also to be kept in mind that recovery of files that are stored on the cloud or even network files will not be supported. Just like any other recovery tool, this tool also needs to be used on the deleted files almost immediately to ensure that these files have not been overwritten.

There will also be an option which will help one look for the lost files, this can be done by searching for keywords such as the file name, which definitely makes it much easier to retrieve and recover the deleted files and information. Through this recovery tool, one can recover MP3 files, MP4 videos, JPEG, PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

This tool is set to operate in three different modes namely, Default, Segment and Signature Mode. For the default mode, the Master File Tablet (MFT) is used to locate these lost files. In the Segment Mode, the summary is file information which is stored and that is referred to as ‘Segment’.

The segments have the details of these lost files, however, the Segment Mode does not require the Master File Tablet. The Signature Mode will only work for specific file types, such as information present on the USB drive. The Signature Mode will also take more time to recover files.

This file recovery tool is very important as it is a useful tool to recover lost files. Microsoft earlier had provided in the previous versions in Windows 10, a particular feature that helps recover lost files and data. This has to be enabled with a File History Feature that remains disabled by default.
