Jio 5G in India: Reliance Jio will lead the roll-out of 5G services in India, confirmed Mukesh Ambani at the fourth edition of Indian Mobile Congress. Major policy changes are needed to bring 5G services in the country, to make it affordable for users, and the spectrum for 5G needs to be held sooner than later, he added.

Jio 5G will be the First 5G Service in India

“India is today among the best digitally connected nations in the world. In order to maintain this lead, policy steps are needed to accelerate the early rollout of 5G and to make it affordable and available everywhere. I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G Revolution in India in the second half of 2021. It will be powered by the indigenous-developed network, hardware and technology components.”

    Testimony to Atma Nirbhar Bharat

Adding to his statement, Mukesh Ambani said that 5G rollout will play a pivotal role in India’s attempt to become Atma Nirbhar. “I can say with utmost confidence that Jio 5G will enable India to not only participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution but also to lead it.”

This will fire-up the telecom space in India, again, as Bharti Airtel’s chairman Sunil Mittal claimed that the 5G services will take another 2-3 years to come to the country.

Reliance is currently working with Qualcomm to bring Jio 5G to the country. At Qualcomm’s annual event, Jio’s President Matthew Oomen, claimed that Jio has developed a fully indigenous Radio Access Network (RAN) product.
