INOX is Disappointed on Online Release of Movies

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought with itself an unbearably long lockdown. Amidst this, online platforms have become the first choice of filmmakers to release their projects. A lot of upcoming Bollywood movies are going to be released on OTT platforms, reported Filmfare.

The recent situation has brought an eclipse to cinema and releases. Therefore, recently, Shoojit Sircar announced the release of his film Gulabo Sitabo, starring Ayushman Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan, on Amazon Prime. Along with this, there are 7 more films that will possibly see an online release.

This was enough to disappoint INOX as they said, ‘This is breaking our partnership.’

The argument continued with various supporters and critics. Kunal Kohli’s reply to the whole matter added fuel to the fire.

Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, PVR Pictures released a statement saying, “We are disappointed with some of our producers deciding to go straight to the streaming platform/s. We were hoping that the producers would accede to our request to hold back their film’s release till cinemas reopen.”

While the disappointment of distributors in understandable, directors don’t have much of a choice as a lot of things are dependent on the release of a project.
