Hilary Duff Implores Disney to Release the Lizzie McGuire Reboot to Hulu

Lizzie McGuire is a series that millennials have grown up with. Before Netflix and Chill was a thing, Disney was the place to be for original content and Lizzie McGuire was an absolute favorite. So, it was no surprise that when the reboot made news, everyone lost their minds.

However, not even a week after Bob Chapek became the new Disney CEO, he has a fresh controversy to deal with. Hilary Duff, whose career launched with Disney’s Lizzie McGuire way back in 2001, has requested the company to release the series on Hulu, instead of Disney Plus.

In a very public post on Friday, Hilary discussed how it was important to be true to Lizzie’s journey as a 30-year-old, and that it would be difficult to do so with a PG rating. Thus, it is probably for the best and in honor of both fans and the character, to move the show to Hulu.

Apparently, Duff and the creator of the original Lizzie McGuire as well as the showrunner for the reboot, Terri Minsky, hoped to show a more mature side of Lizzie and depict her adult life. Even though they completed a few episodes, Disney decided to change course mid-track. Moreover, they removed Terri from the new series as well.

Hilary was, perhaps, unhappy with these changes and thus figured Hulu was a solution that would be beneficial for all parties involved. Disney has, in the past, mentioned that Hulu would contain more adult-oriented content that would probably be a bit much for Disney Plus.

Notably, Disney mentioned a few days ago that the series Love, Simon would be moving to Hulu for the same reason.

In her Instagram post, Hilary also mentioned that she wants Lizzie to feel as real and relatable in the reboot as she felt in the original series. Way to go, girl!
