Greyhound will be making its debut on Apple TV+ on 10th of July. This film will feature Tom Hanks. The much-anticipated film has skipped its theatrical release and has bypassed its way to the online streaming platform. Greyhound is a naval war drama which will make its global debut through a streaming platform. The theatrical release date has been postponed twice because of the pandemic.
This Sony Picture production was initially said to be released in the theatres but due to the pandemic, most productions have bypassed the theatrical route to stream on OTT media.
Greyhound is directed by Aaron Schneider and it is based and inspired by true incident and events. There was a two-minute 44-sec long trailer that was launched in the month of April. The film is set during World War II and is based on a novel from 1955, written by C.S Forester. The name of the novel is The Good Shepherd and the screenplay is written by Tom Hanks.
Tom Hanks plays the role of a first-time captain that leads the convoy of allied ships which is shown to carry many soldiers across to the battle front line. The movie will also feature Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue.
Greyhound will give Apple TV+ an edge over its competitors such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other streaming platforms.
Apple TV+ has also reportedly partnered with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg on the WW II series Masters of the Air. Apple TV+ already has a lot of big names like Oprah Winfrey, Steven Speilberg, Chris Evans, Jennifer Aniston and now it has Tom Hanks under their label too!
Since Apple bought the film for an exclusive debut on Apple TV+ because that will enable everyone who has a subscription to the offered service will be able to watch at home. Greyhound will be one of the biggest films to debut on Apple TV+ and mainly because of Tom Hanks’ popularity.
Apple TV+ has been a little behind with original content even though its rival entertainment platforms have created and released original content during this pandemic. This new project, along with many other additions, will probably keep the streaming platform on the right track.
Apple TV+ recently has also premiered the acclaimed documentary Beastie Boys Story, along with a new animated series called Central Park.
