Forbes has been releasing the list of the richest people in America for a long time now. But in the most recent list of top 400 Americans there was a new entry, at 97, stood Valve’s boss Gabe Newell, who’s now reportedly worth $5.5 billion which is amazing considering his worth was just $4.1 billion in January of this year. That means his personal worth increased by more than a billion in just 10 months. This also makes him 427th richest person in the world.
Newell owns around half of Valve. Unlike other companies like Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Sony etc., Valve is not a publicly traded company. That means it keeps its financials private, that’s the reason it’s not possible to know the true net worth of Valve or its employees. The list is said to be based on estimates, so Newell’s true fortune could be way more than what is estimated. Forbes estimate Valve to be worth around $10 billion, with Newell owning more than half. He currently shares his position on the list with nine other people.
Valve is the company behind the Steam platform and has developed games like Counter-Strike, Portal and Half-Life. Microsoft’s Bill Gates topped the list yet again with an estimated worth of $89 billion followed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos($81.5 billion). Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg stood at the fourth position with a net worth of $71 billion.
