Ubisoft dropped another look at the fascinating characters and the universe in the hugely anticipated game, Far Cry 6. What can you expect from the latest game in a franchise known for its fantastic villains?
Far Cry 6 had a great showing at Gamescom Opening Night, with the game showcasing a gameplay trailer that revealed much about the game’s setting, alongside some insight into the renowned characters of the franchise. Giancarlo Esposito, Emmy award-nominated actor renowned for playing hugely popular characters in shows such as Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian, will be the game’s main villain.
Far Cry 6 is set in Yara, a fictional country based on Cuba. It features Esposito as Anton Castillo, who plans on turning Yara into a paradise to leave it to his son, Diego. Anton is shown to be ruthless and unforgiving, willing to sacrifice his entire population in order to fulfil his dreams of paradise.
The player will play as Dani Rojas, who can be male or female per the players’ wishes. They are on the side of the rebels, aiming to free Yara from the clutches of the ruthless dictator. Like Vass in Far Cry 3, Anton Castillo has killed someone very close to Dani, making them vow to take revenge against the dictator.
The relationship in Far Cry 6 between Anton and his son Diego seems to play a major part in the game’s narrative, as much of the reveal trailer is based upon an interview conducted on the father-son duo and their policies. It allows for a very interesting take on the ethics of the involuntary betterment of a country. Is development more necessary than the lives of a country’s citizens? That’s the kind of question Far Cry 6 poses in its narrative.
Far Cry 6 releases on October 7. 2021. Pre-order the game here.
