When news broke that Dragon Ball Super would be getting a continuation in the form of a movie, fans were excited to see what Toei would bring to the table. When a trailer released that showed a Saiyan covered in green fur clashing fists with Goku, speculations began as to the identity of the mysterious foe. Now, with Toei releasing a poster for the new movie that confirms the identity of the new villain, fans are losing their minds over the reveal of Broly as the new foe Goku and Vegeta must face off against.
The poster was released yesterday in the wee hours of the night, showing Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, with Broly in his base form looming ominously in the background. And if there was any doubt as to the identity of this figure, at the very bottom, Broly’s iconic pupil-less eyes as seen in his Legendary Super Saiyan Form are seen glaring at the viewer. The title has also been revealed as Dragon Ball Super: Broly, however, it is more likely that this is a temporary title for the movie.
Broly first appeared way back in 1993 in a movie named Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, and he instantly won fans over with overwhelming power that trumped anything fans had seen in the series thus far. He returned in two subsequent movies in 1994 and 1995, fighting against the sons of the protagonist Goku. Since these movies are not considered to fit within the main timeline of the Dragon Ball continuity, however, fans have not seen Broly on the big screen for a very long time.
Akira Toriyama, creator and author of Dragon Ball, released comments from the official site of the movie, saying that the character of Broly was being reworked from the ground up for the movie and that he changed things about him keeping in mind his original image form Dragon Ball Z so as to not trample on the memories of his fans. The movie is set to release on the 14th of December, 2018.
