The Walt Disney Company’s streaming service, Disney+, will launch on March 24, a week earlier than scheduled, in the biggest Western European countries including the U.K. and Ireland, according to reports.

Along with the U.K. and Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland will also get the services on 24th instead of 31st, as previously scheduled. Other Western European countries like Belgium, the Nordics and Portugal will follow suit this summer. Currently, the Netherlands is the only country that is enjoying the streaming service, where the company beta-tested it. After this, the company released the service in the U.S.

Although the company didn’t provide a reason for the sudden launch date move, they did intimate subscribes with what to expect after it is launched. Disney+ will release with original content for Europe including Star Wars universe series The Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as well as Encore! and Diary of a Future President.

Subscription prices are expected to be £5.99 ($7.99) or €6.99 ($7.75) per month, or £59.99 ($79.99) or €69.99 ($77.50) for a yearly subscription. This is the same as Netflix’s basic package in Europe. However, Disney charges $2 less per month than Netflix’s basic package in the U.S.

Disney+ launched in the U.S. on November 12, 2019, and saw over 10 million subscribers in the first week alone. They are expecting between 60 million and 90 million global streaming subscribers by 2024. Consequently, the expansion threatens to draw audiences away from Netflix’s ever-growing fanbase.

Notably, Disney+ will launch in Latin America in October 2020.

The streaming sector is predicted to become more competitive with Apple’s Apple TV+, AT&T’s WarnerMedia launching HBO Max and Comcast’s NBCUniversal, to roll out Peacock in April.
