Disney and Sky Strike a Multi-Year Deal; To Launch Sky Q in the UK

Disney, in its effort to penetrate every possible market as deeply as possible, has taken the next step. The company has struck a multi-year deal with British Satellite TV broadcaster Sky. This typically means a dedicated Disney Plus app will be available to viewers on the Sky Q boxes, much like the existing Netflix app.

Apart from this, Sky will also launch Disney Plus on its streaming service Now TV and the deal includes films like Ford v Ferrari and Terminator: Dark Fate.

However, it is not clear if the deal between Sky and Disney is exclusive. Rivals like Virgin Media and BT have not announced similar deals in the UK either. Moreover, Sky hasn’t announced any special bundles for Disney Plus access but the company has promised that Disney Plus will be available at launch on March 24.

Disney Plus is arriving in the UK five months after it was launched in the US – proving Brits the opportunity to access shows like The Mandalorian. On top of this, Disney had signed a deal with French pay-TV company Canal Plus way back in December and the service has grown to more than 28 million subscribers since launch.
