The Netflix German Original series Dark is back with their third season and there is a teaser trailer doing the rounds on social media. The third season also happens to be the final season which is going to premiere on Netflix, on 27 June. For those of you who follow the show, you’d know that 27 June also coincidentally matches the day of the much-anticipated apocalypse in the show.
The teaser trailer begins with “The end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end.” It leaves its viewers with mind-boggling questions and overwhelming theories to counter those questions. Let us not ponder over those questions too much now that we have tick tocked our way to the end of the “Final cycle”.
Going by what the teaser showed, we can and probably will see more of Martha, Jonas and Bartosz in this season. Dark was one of the most critically acclaimed and popular international shows which were also viewed by many outside of Germany. Dark is based out of a fictitious town in Germany. The main plot of the series is a time-travelling conspiracy which has affected four families and troubled them in many ways. It is about finding answers, looking for missing people, understanding the time and mind-bending incidents that keep occurring one after the other in that small town of Germany. It is a Wiedemann & Berg Television production.
The third and final season of Dark will premiere almost after a year on from the release of the second season. The co-creators of this sci-fi thriller, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, had said last year that this season will have answers to untangle all the questions that the viewers have had for so long. In the last season, Martha, one of our lead characters around whom there is endless confusion, stated a confusing question, “not what time, but what world?”
This season we will see Martha and young Jonas be the driving force, as their goal would be to stop Adam (who is the villain and also old Jonas) from messing up the whole timeline by drawing the characters into an endless time loop.
Dark has the most confusing set of characters but that’s just the nature of the show. There are multiple actors playing the same character as there is a presence of time travel in the show. There’s a parallel universe apparently, so there are different timelines and same characters. The characters that have died or gone missing in the previous seasons could find a way back in this season because of time travel.
This potentially means that the whole cast will probably show up again this final season, which is great news for the fans of the show. The showrunners have confirmed that Louis Hofmann (young Jonas), Andreas Pietschmann (adult Jonas) Mark Waschke (adult Noah), Lisa Vicari (young Martha), Jordis Triebel (Katharina), and Lea van Acken (Elisabeth’s future self who is a soldier) will be present in the final season of Dark.
