The official announcement for Borderlands 3 has just come in, confirming its launch on September 13th. It will be playable on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and will be available exclusively on the Epic Store until April 2020. Since the game is developed on the Unreal Engine, it doesn’t have to pay any royalty fees for proceeds coming from the Epic Store. The gameplay reveal will occur on May 1st. The developers have also partnered with AMD to give an optimized experience on Radeon GPUs and Ryzen CPUs.

In fact, this isn’t just a mere partnership, and as per the company, the game will be built from the ground up for AMD hardware. This means that team red should be able to run Borderlands 3 much better than rivals NVIDIA and Intel when it finally launches in April next year. I’m interested in seeing how much of a performance gap there’ll be between GeForce and Radeon GPUs, and whether the upcoming Zen2 CPUs can actually beat Intel’s chips in the PC gaming benchmarks.

Statement from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford:

For the past several years, the team at Gearbox Software has been devoting every ounce of our passion, creativity and love into making Borderlands 3 the biggest, baddest and most ambitious Borderlands adventure we’ve ever made. Borderlands 3 is being crafted not only as a love letter to fans of the series but also as an ideal entry point for new players to jump-in alone or cooperatively, on or off-line, in the latest and greatest instalment of the definitive best-in-class benchmark shooter-looter.

Statement from 2K president David Ismailer:

The PC gaming community has been an important part of the success of the Borderlands series, and we are excited to be partnering with Epic who recognize its worldwide popularity and share in our commitment to bring Borderlands 3 to this rapidly expanding audience. Our mission, in addition to delivering the most engaging and captivating entertainment experiences, is to embrace new distribution platforms that will contribute to our effort to grow the audience for Borderlands 3.
